Community Block Party

The last big event planned by the committee was a community block party in downtown Myerstown which coincided with the annual Isaac Meier Homestead Country Fair.  Vendors lined the streets of Main Avenue and Railroad Street with handcrafted goods, food and drinks, and other items for sale.  Dollar General Distribution Center of Bethel sponsored a stage that featured local bands “Bryan Stevenson” and “The Rockers”.  A chili cook-off showcased the cooking skills of nine local residents, as guest judges determined who had the best chili in Myerstown.  A car cruise featured over 100 entries of classic cars, hot rods, and specialty vehicles.  The Goodwill Fire Company hosted a beer garden and the Keystone Hook & Ladder Company sold food and held a raffle.  Local radio station WQIC broadcast from the event and helped shine a bright light on Myerstown and this wonderful event.   The annual Country Fair offered tours of the Isaac Meier Homestead, home of the founder of the town.  Demonstration included sheep to shawl, plus sales of traditional crafts, homemade foods, ice cream and baked goods.
